Privacy
Tappie is a place to log what you drink and share it with friends. We keep what the app needs to do that, and nothing more. No ads, no trackers, and we never sell your data.
- We store your account and what you post. That’s it.
- Photos are re-encoded and stripped of all metadata, including GPS, before we keep them.
- Your location stays on your phone, except to sort nearby places. We never store it.
- No advertising, no analytics trackers, no data sales.
- Delete your account in Settings and what you posted goes with it.
What we store
Your account
Your email address, name, handle, bio and avatar photo, plus a securely hashed password (we can’t read it). We also remember which kinds of drinks you said you like, so we can shape what you discover.
What you post
Your check-ins: the drink, your rating, tasting notes, flavour tags, the venue you picked, the price you paid and any photo you added. Drinks you add to the catalog and photos of their labels. Your wishlist.
What you do with other people
Who you follow and who follows you, the cheers you give, the people you block, and reports you send us about content or people.
Sessions
For each device you’re signed in on, we keep a session with a device name (like “Android”) and when it was last used, so you can see your sessions in Settings and sign them out.
Brand accounts
If you run a brand account for a brewery or winery, we store the brand’s name and details and which drinks it lists officially.
Technical logs
Like any service on the internet, our servers see your IP address when the app talks to them. We use it to keep Tappie secure and to limit abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts). For sign-ins, check-ins, drinks you add, reports you file and changes to your account, we keep an event log with the IP address and the kind of device (like “Android”). Only Tappie’s moderators can see it, it’s deleted after 180 days, and it goes with your account when you delete it.
Photos
Every photo you upload is re-encoded on our server before we keep it. That removes all metadata, including EXIF data such as the camera, the time and the GPS position where it was taken. We store the cleaned image and a small thumbnail under random ids that can’t be guessed, with nova.storage, a file storage provider in the EU.
What other people can see
People on Tappie see your profile, your check-ins and the cheers you give, unless you’ve blocked each other. When you share a check-in, drink or profile, we make a public page for it on this site so the link works for anyone; only things you share appear there, and anything hidden by moderation or from a blocked account doesn’t.
Your location
Tappie uses your phone’s location to show bars, taprooms and shops near you. That happens on your device. When the app asks for nearby places, it sends your position with that one request so the server can sort places by distance. We don’t store it, log it or keep a history of where you’ve been. You can turn location off and still use everything else.
What we don’t do
- No ads, and no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app or on this site.
- No tracking cookies. The only cookie on this site is a sign-in cookie for our own moderators.
- We don’t sell, rent or trade your data, to anyone.
We only email you to confirm your address and to reset your password when you ask. No newsletters, no marketing.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. Everything you posted and uploaded is deleted with it: your profile, check-ins, notes, photos, follows, cheers, wishlist and sessions. Drinks you added to the shared catalog stay, so other people’s check-ins still make sense, but your name is removed from them.
You can also edit or delete a single check-in in the app, and change your profile whenever you like.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us and we’ll answer within a month.
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app first.
